Hi Matt,

I think your problem is due to high database fragmentation, follow the 
steps in this article to be sure there are no problems with db integrity

and the follow this article 
to defragment the database http://sup****t.microsoft.com/kb/192185/en-us

Keep in mind that to run both tools database need to be dismounted.
