My client is using CRM 3 on SBS R2.
They want to move CRM 3 to a new server with Windows 2003 on a
separate box and then upgrade to cRM 4.
They have already got CRM 4 Professional Edition License key from
Microsoft.
Client do not want to run CRM upgrade on live SBS which would be a
risk for running system.
They also do not want to set up a identical test environment due to
resource crunch.
I am thinking upgrade process as below:
Upgrade the license key on existing CRM server from Small Business
Edition to Prof. Edition.
Take back up of databases. Restore databases on new Windows 2003
Server (SQL 2005 + sp2)
Install CRM 3 Professional pointing to the existing database.
Upgrade to CRM 4
However all the above can be done provided we have CRM 3 Professional
License Key to upgrade the license from SBE to Prof. before we take
database from SBS to new Windows 2003 server. Microsoft has not
provided CRM 3 Professional key but provided CRM 4 license key.
How do I take CRM 3 application (Small Business Edition) from SBS to
Windows 2003 Server without first upgrading from SBE to Prof. Can I
upgrade SBE (with formal license key) to Prof version with a trial
Prof. License key? What is the work around?
Suggestions requested.
