Forms auth, Guest on, Read-only site: still asking to login

Hi,

I'm trying out forms authentication for a CMS SP2 site. I've got <allow 
users="*" />. Guest is on with access to everything. Even read about 
SeImpersonatePriviledge. But still it redirects to the login page!

It seems simple but after several days searching and troubleshooting I
still 
can't figure it out. Any inputs appreciated.
