Enforcing expiry dates on do***ents in the resource gallery

I hope to build a MCMS site where:
All postings including PDFs and other do***ents have metadata associated 
with them
All postings and do***ents have enforced expiry dates

I believe the former is possible (correct me if I'm wrong) but is the
latter?

I'd be grateful for any pointers.
